The main feature of this release is the inclusion of the first version of the VoIP Plivo module (http://drupal.org/project/voipplivo), which enables VoIP Drupal to make and receive phone calls without necessarily depending on external Internet-telephony providers.

We are happy to announce the release of VoIP Drupal Beta 3!

Among other things, this version incorporates the following changes:

* Bug fixes of different kinds

* New commands added to VoipScript
** addBeep(), to make beeps on the phone
** addLog(), to facilitate debugging
** addRunIvrMenu(), to make it easy to create complex interactive menus

* Changed parameter sequence of addSay()

* Renamed addSendSms() to addSendText() and included new parameters to indicate which channel to use (SMS, IM, etc.)

During the week of March 7th I will be in Chicago spreading the word about VoIP Drupal.

In particular, I will be organizing the following talks and sessions:

• on Monday (3/7), a BoF discussion at CiviCon about the integration of VoIP Drupal and CiviCRM
• on Tuesday (3/8), an Ignite Talk at DrupalCon
• On Wednesday (3/9), an introductory BoF session at DrupalCon
  

It is with great pleasure that I would like to announce the first release of the VoIP Drupal platform!!

VoIP Drupal is an innovative framework that brings the power of voice and Internet-telephony to Drupal sites. It can be used to build hybrid applications that combine regular touchtone phones, web, SMS, Twitter, IM and other communication tools in a variety of ways, including:

• Voice- and SMS-based Go Out to Vote campaigns
• 2-1-1 and 3-1-1 lines (information hotlines)
• Phone-based community surveys
• PTA or any meeting reminder calls
  

Today we released audiorecorderfield.module, a module that enables users to record audio contents directly from the browser, with a simple click of the mouse (http://www.drupal.org/project/audiorecorderfield/).

It has been about 5 years since I started asking for that sort of capability in Drupal sites. At that time, I was working with underserved youth who did not have regular access to computers and, in many cases, were semi-literate. I knew they had a lot to say and would love to express their stories online. However, to expect them to do so in writing was too much.
